Red Wine IGP

Wines produced in a particularly suitable wine-growing area

IGP: products with qualities determined by geographical origin. At least one of the production phases must take place in that particular area

Instead of the IGT we now find the PGI or "the geographical name of an area used to designate the resulting product which has quality, notoriety and specific characteristics attributable to that area". Even for this denomination, however, very specific chemical and organoleptic analyzes are required.

Table wines are replaced by common wines, which simply show the name of the vine on the label.

PDOs and IGTs are registered in the E-Bacchus Community Register, where you will find a wealth of information and statistics.
In Italy there are 129 IGTs and 474 PDOs.
