Calabria
is a region of southern Italy and constitutes the tip of the boot. It has a mainly hilly surface, but also has large mountainous areas and plains of modest extension. The main resource is the sea, with a very long coast overlooking three seas (Tyrrhenian, Ionian and Strait of Messina) in a landscape that alternates beaches and cliffs. The Calabrian territory hosts some of the Italian national monuments including castles, abbeys, churches, baptisteries and sanctuaries. It can also boast numerous places of archaeological interest, due to the multiple dominations that have followed one another in history.
PLACES
Note is Reggio Calabria, the regional capital, an Italian metropolitan city. In the historic center of Isola di Capo Rizzuto there are remains of the sixteenth-century fortified complex of the Feudal Castle, built in the medieval period; among the places we find "l'Orologio" and the Porta of the medieval village which divides the ancient area from the more modern one.
COMMON
Calabria is divided into 5 provinces and 409 municipalities. These include Reggio Calabria, Catanzaro, Cosenza, Crotone, Vibo Valentia, Lamezia Terme, Corigliano Calabro, Gioia Tauro and Isola di Capo Rizzuto.
